Ship to Ship Project
2002
The Ship to Ship project was
wonderfully fascinating! This thing is a
100,000,000 candle power US military battlefield spotlight --
yes, that’s right,
one-hundred million. It was mounted on a dual-axis satellite tracking
mount and
was wired into a PC that was receiving wireless instructions from our
home
base. We broadcasted audio files through a circuit that actually
encoded the
audio into the beam of light and the computer was set up with a star
map and
sky coordinates. Fun stuff! My role on this project involved the design
and
building of 5 pyramid-shaped kiosks with built-in, husk-less CRTs. I
used
calculus to optimize lumber purchase and trig to calculate pyramidal
angles.
